Foreign minister Stéphane Dion’s shameful, selective condemnation of terrorist violence in Tel-Aviv

The minister conveniently turns a blind eye to seven decades of Israeli terrorism against Palestinians.

In response to an Associated Press story published yesterday by CBC News, Palestinian gunmen kill 4 Israelis in Tel Aviv, 5 wounded, foreign minster Dion tweeted:

Stéphane Dion — @MinCanadaFA Condemn violence and anyone who seeks to glorify #Sarona market terrorists. Appalling and unacceptable.

In sharp contrast to Dion’s predictable tweet, is this sobering statement from Tel Aviv mayor Ron Huldai:

We might be the only country in the world where another nation is under occupation without civil rights.”

deaf blind worldPresumably, Dion expects responsibly informed Canadians to disregard the inconvenient facts not mentioned in the AP/CBC account, such as, for example –

The historical relevance and context of the Tel Aviv incident. Ignored is almost fifty years – 17,898 days – of Israel’s brutal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza strip, an occupation that amounts to the incremental genocide of the Palestinian people.

68 years of infamy, dating to May 1948, when, with British backing, Israel was created, Palestine was simultaneously destroyed with the forced expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians.

Ongoing homelessness of some 75,000 Gazans two years after Israel’s vicious 51 days of  “Operation Protective Edge” attack, which resulted in over 2000 Palestinians dead, approximately 500 of which were children.

The Israeli Army’s kidnapping of 471 Palestinians in May 2016 alone, 5,805 since October 2015.

Pro-Israel groups’ vow to “eliminate” Palestinians’ non-violent Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign, their only recourse to counter Israel’s ongoing bloody, illegal imprisonment of Palestinians in open air jails.

In the face of these facts, Dion has the bald-faced effrontery to denounce the Palestinian gunmen as ‘terrorists’, while, seemingly, always turning a blind eye to years of disproportionate acts of Israeli terrorism. The man has no sense of shame, no sense of deserved human rights and justice for Palestinians.

Chinese incident exposes Trudeau/Dion’s hypocritical double standard over human rights concerns: Quick to be ‘vocal’ with China about human rights, but wilfully silent about decades of Israel’s flagrant violations of Palestinians’ human rights – posted June 4, 2016
