The first step to Stop Energy East, From: Cameron Fenton – 350.org email@example.com, November 5, 2014
Last week, TransCanada filed its proposal to the National Energy Board to build the largest tar sands pipeline ever — Energy East. This means the clock is now ticking on the review for Energy East, and we’re getting ready to take the next steps to stop it.
Here’s what we’re going to do:
- We’re going to deliver tens of thousands of messages to the National Energy Board calling for a climate review of Energy East. This will be a high profile action to deliver tens of thousands messages gathered through Phase 1 of the People’s Intervention campaign directly to the National Energy Board. Over 50,000 Canadians from across the country have already added their message — if you haven’t sent yours yet, you can do it here.
- We’re going to build a cross-Canada Energy East Action Network to organize community actions to stop this project. This network will be the anti-Energy East boots on the ground across Canada, with nationwide actions at key moments like last week, local actions when decision makers or TransCanada come to town, and anything else you can think of. Creative use of people power is what will turn the tide against Harper’s pipeline push, and all are needed. Sign up here to join the Energy East Action Network.
Together, we’re going to force a climate review of Energy East — and when we do, the facts will speak for themselves and show that Canada can’t afford this pipeline.
We’re preparing tools to help communities file thousands of applications with the National Energy Board demanding to have a say about Energy East’s massive climate impact. Sign up for the Action Network to be the first to receive an organizing kit as soon as we’re ready to go.
According to new National Energy Board rules, the review of Energy East will take fifteen months, so the time to get organizing is right now. The first step is joining the action network, and from there we’ll put up the fiercest 15 month fight Stephen Harper has ever seen.
