First, this important message about Transition Guelph:
Welcome to Transition Guelph — We are an organization that promotes processes for strengthening community resilience and building sustainability. These processes are uniquely designed by each community based on their local needs and resources.
Our goal is to create a richer, more vibrant community through the re-localization of all the services and resources that we need to survive and thrive in a world of depleting fossil fuels, global warming, and increasing instability in the world economy. We encourage our citizenry to become involved and empowered, to offer their own ideas and insights, and pitch in to help create a viable and sustainable future for ourselves, our children, and our children’s children.
And now, on to Transition Streets —
Transition Streets is now rolling out in neighbourhoods across Guelph. Our first hosts are gathering their neighbours and setting up meetings in their neighbourhood. We offered a one-day facilitator training so a team of volunteer facilitators are ready to attend Transition Street meetings.
Transition Streets is bringing neighbours together to get better acquainted, while learning collaboratively how to save money, reduce environmental footprints, and empower them to work together to create positive and long term environmental and social change. By becoming a facilitator you will be supporting families and “street-level” neighbourhood groups in conducting their biweekly or monthly Transition Streets gatherings
ABOUT TRANSITION STREETS
Do you want to connect with the neighbours around you? Do you envision a community that is based on connectedness and working together? Perhaps you want rain barrels, trees on your street, backyard chickens or a vegetable garden, more walkable neighbourhoods where your kids are safe to play, safe bike routes around the city? Maybe you have no idea how to go about creating a resilient community, but you want to take action?
Transition Streets is bringing neighbours together to get better acquainted, while learning collaboratively how to save money, reduce environmental footprints, and empower you to work together to create positive and long term environmental and social change. Through Transition Streets, you get to be the change you want to have in your neighbourhood.
This award-winning program has been adapted for Guelph from the famous Transition Streets program in Totnes, England. Transition Streets Guelph is a collaboration between eMerge Guelph, Transition Guelph, and researchers at the University of Guelph.
