I’m old enough to remember this poster of another American president, “Tricky Dick.” Nixon.
The following story reminds me of that poster. To update it, all we need do is change the portrait of the presidentt. Perhaps Ralph Nader was right to ask: “Has there been a bigger con man in the White House than Barack Obama?”
Since Edward Snowden leaked a trove of documents detailing the NSA’s sweeping surveillance programs, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper acknowledged that part of his congressional testimony in March was, euphemistically speaking, “erroneous.” But that’s not the only questionable comment by administration officials about the programs.
A ProPublica report, including the video, documents the NSA lies told by Obama and his administration officials. To access the report, which is best viewed on the ProPublica website, click on the following linked title. Alternatively, a modified, embedded 3-minute version of the video is posted below.
Caught lying were, in the order in which they appear in the following video: James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence; Gen. Keith Alexander (2 lies); Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and President Obama. In addition, an official NSA Fact Sheet contained “an inaccurate statement about how the section 702 authority has been interpreted by the US government“. Senators Wyden and Udall brought this error to the attention of Gen. Alexander. An NSA spokesperson did not answer questions about the error, and since secrecy prevails, the public may never find out what the error was.
Seems like Edward Snowden is the only person telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth about NSA surveillance. Little wonder Obama wants him behind bars in order to send a strong message to other would-be truth-tellers.
